MAD COWS
They don't take no bull. When her TV star husband Alex, played by Greg Wise of the Academy Award-winning Sense and Sensibility, decides to divorce her so that he can start a career in politics, newly single mother Maddy, portrayed by Anna Friel (A Midsummer Night's Dream), goes shoplifting and ends up in jail. Desperate, she begs her friend Gillian, played with great comedic sense by Joanna Lumley of television’s Absolutely Fabulous, to take care of the baby until she is to be released or escapes. Despite Gillian's reluctance, as she's not the mothering type, she agrees, and actually turns out to show some true maternal instincts and love for baby Jack. But a secret adoption racket run by prison psychiatrist Dwina Phelps (Anna Masey) threatens to take the baby from her and Maddy. This shrewdly entertaining frolic, directed with perfect comic timing by Sara Sugarman who leads an all-star cast, is a tale of maternal instinct gone awry.
