AMY FOSTER
Amy Foster's world is one of rejection. Working as a servant to the Smith family on the New Barn's Farm and written off as a simpleton by her employees, her own family and the local community, Amy is resigned to a life of loneliness. Her solace is in her secret world by the sea, a shoreline cave filled with cast off treasure where she dreams of a better life. The arrival of a stranger, Yanko Gooral, a Ukrainian emigrant washed up on the shore, changes everything for Amy. Yanko, who was on his way to America is the sole survivor of an overcrowded ship which capsized in the storm. Yanko is not welcomed by the villagers who refuse to offer him shelter or food and Amy recognising a kindred spirit offers him a hand in compassion.
