Synopsis:

It is Ivan Sanshin’s wedding night, and the KGB is at his door. His neighbour was arrested an hour before, now, on this summer’s night in 1939, on this one night in a thousand of purges during Joseph Stalin’s reign, it is Ivan’s turn to be taken away, and he is not sure that he will ever see his bride again. He has done nothing wrong, he has served the Motherland loyally, but that does not deter the KGB. A terrifying drive through streets of Moscow takes him not, however, to disgrace and possible death, but into the innermost sanctum of Soviet power. Ivan Sandhin, humble projectionist for the KGB Club, has been pressed into duty to show films to none other than Stalin himself. From this night on, Comrade Sanshin becomes Stalin’s personal projectionist and thus part of his hero’s inner circle.
