Synopsis:

INFERNO is a wildly stylistic thriller from Dario Argento, whose trademark is the combination of truly scary horror with intense stylistic elegance. In this film, he weaves together an almost symbolically abstract story of alchemical secrets and architectural madness. A follow up and unofficial sequel to Argento's earlier film Suspiria, INFERNO builds on a mythology begun in the previous film about a mysterious occult group known as "The Three Mothers." In New York City, Sara (Eleonora Giorgi) and Rose (Irene Miracle) discover a sinister architectural grimoire named The Three Mothers, describing the special tombs built for a trio of evil witches by a mythic architect named only Varelli. The discovery of the book is a grave misfortune; soon Sara is brutally murdered and Rose disappears. Mark (Leigh McCloskey), who is Rose's sister and Sara's boyfriend, arrives in New York from Rome to investigate the mystery. Things rapidly become complicated; he discovers the building he is in was built by Varelli, he learns of a jewel-thievery plot, and more brutal murders take place. Finding a series of secret passageways inside the building's core, Mark discovers the still-living Varelli and the shocking secret of the Three Mothers. A sudden blaze breaks out which engulfs the building in flames and threatens to destroy them all.
